Since 1989, Alfonso has developed an outstanding professional career specializing in Competition Law in Colombia. During this time, he has provided advice to several companies and acted as attorney in some of the most important matters that have arisen in Colombia on issues of restrictive competition practices, business integrations, unfair competition, consumer protection, and legal metrology.
He has provided advice to state and private entities in Colombia and abroad on competition and telecommunications issues. Also, he has participated in judicial and arbitration processes in commercial and corporate matters.
Between 2003 and 2021, he was the director of the Department of Economic Law of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of Universidad Javeriana. Founding member and director of Centro de Estudios de Derecho de la Competencia/Center for Competition Law Studies (CEDEC). He was the founder of Asociación Colombiana de Derecho de la Competencia/Colombian Association of Competition Law (ACDC); Competition Law professor at undergraduate and graduate level at Universidad Javeriana and others since 1990.; lecturer on competition issues at national and international level; Non-Governmental Advisor (NGA) for Colombia before the International Competition Network (ICN) in the 2012-2016 and 2019-2020 periods.
